Hi Nightcruiser Crew,
Just a short note to say a big thank you for our Brewery Tour you planned for us. Your suggestion to start at Clancy's Fish Pub worked out brilliant and got everybody in the mood. Our highlight was the Iron Bark Brewery and the great hospitality of Graeme White.
We'll be back for that Country Pubs Tour you mentioned, next.

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my reputation."
"One beer is better than no beer.
Two beers are better than one beer.
But four beers are not twice as good as two beers."

(Professor Dr. Anton Piendl, Institute for Brewery Technology and Microbiology at Technical University Munich-Weihenstephan).

Professor Dr. Hans Hoffmeister of Free University of Berlin and Director of the Robert-Koch-Institute in Berlin, explained that moderate consumption of alcohol is 4 to 40 grams per day which corresponds to 0.1 to 1 litre of beer.

Professor Dr. Anton Piendl of the Technical University of Munich-Weihenstephan recommends drinking a half litre (one pint) of beer in the evening or before going to bed.

In the recent few years, official circles in the United States and the United Kingdom have changed their attitude towards alcohol consumption from "less is better". The British Government recently set up an inter-departmental committee to evaluate all available studies on the alcohol consumption on human health.
It gave the following recommendations at the end of  the evaluation:

1.  One to two drinks per day are beneficial
2.  Up to three or four drinks daily is harmless
3.  More than three-four drinks daily is risky.

It is a widely emphasized opinion of the researchers and experts, that there should be a balanced report on the effects -- beneficial and harmful -- of alcohol consumption, particularly beer consumption. Emphasis being on beer for the fact that beer, due to the presence of the numerous beneficial substances and positive effects on health, is very different from the so-called "empty" alcoholic beverages.

As a result, if it is scientifically accepted that moderate alcohol consumption is beneficial to health, then moderate beer drinking is definitely more beneficial to health than those beverages that contain nothing else than alcohol. This is especially true for craft-brewed beers.
Ordering
There are many facets that the modern ale connoisseur must consider when enjoying beer.  One perplexing aspect of beer drinking is the number of different receptacles that beer can come in.  Different Breweries will offer you different sizes for beer for sampling, tasting or drinking full sizes. It also depends on what type of license they hold.

The English term "toast" has been traced to the 17th century, and had reference at first to the custom of drinking to the ladies. In Stuart times, it was the practice to put a piece of toast in the wine cup from belief that it improved the flavour of the wine.

However, we can be sure that long before then that drinkers would lift a glass of beer to offer a toast for just about any occasion. Who hasn't been asked to "say a few words" at a wedding, to find the right words to send a friend off on a new job, to help neighbours christen a new home?

Here you'll find some our favourite toasts, many submitted by Real Beer readers. We've arranged them by category, but many toasts would fit in more than one so you may find the one that suits you most by browsing a bit.

COWARAMUP BREWING COMPANY
Lot 3 North Treeton Road, Cowaramup
The Nightcruisers call on this venue
The brewery which opened in December 2006 has a purpose built brew house which was imported from Canada. Currently four beers are available on tap with seasonal and specialty brews planned.

Nine varieties of hops are grown on site and used to produce the beers.

Cowaramup Brewing Company is currently working with Moonhaven soaps and lotions to develop a hop soap and anti inflammatory hop ointment.

The brewery is open from 10am to 6pm daily with food complementing the beer styles available in the restaurant. The venue is family friendly with a bouncy castle for the kids.

T
he 800 litre brew house was imported from Diversified Mechanical Engineering in Canada.

The fermentation side consists of three fermenters with a total capacity of 3200 litres. Four serving tanks are located in a cold room adjacent to the bar area - the beer is then dispensed directly through the beer taps.

The brewery features a restaurant and beer garden with food to complement the range of beers on tap. The menu includes a range of pizzas, platters, Caesar salads, steak sandwich, fish and chips with a range of kid’s meals also available

Duckstein Micro-Brewery
3517 Caves Rd, Wilyabrup
The Duckstein Brewery, Margaret River is hosted by Saracen Estates which is located at 3517 Caves Road, Wilyabrup, about halfway between Margaret River and Yallingup in Western Australia's South-West.

The Mediterranean climate of Margaret River combined with its good soil provides the foundation for one of the purest wine growing environments in the world, particularly in this part of the Wilyabrup Valley.

Its proximity to the beachside holiday destinations of Busselton, Dunsborough, Yallingup and Augusta makes it a popular day-trip for travelers to sample some of the finest quality produce on offer which in addition to wine includes cheese, chocolate and craft beer.

  MOODY COW BREWERY
791 Ferguson Road, Ferguson Valley
Moody Cow is the creation of Grant McClintock, the latest in a growing line of Australian home brewers to take the logical but daring next step to commercial beer production.

The name of his business fits neatly with the Ferguson Valley’s dairy farming past, although McClintock assures this is accidental as it was coined long before a site for the operation had been acquired. Nevertheless, the connection has been reinforced by his use of ex-dairying vats to build a brewing system which in the main will produce 1,200 litre batches.

McClintock will maintain a draught focus at Moody Cow Brewery, although he has a small bottling plant and will bottle some unfiltered and unpasteurised beer for sale from his premises. Beer, however, is not the only attraction at Moody Cow.

The family-oriented complex includes a restaurant, space for weddings and other social functions, and a children’s playground. It is set in a rural landscape, with a grassy amphitheatre for outdoor concerts, and open space for do-it-yourself recreation.
